President's Message
TIME SEEMS TO BE MOVING quickly. In only a few months
we will be in Rapid City for the 1998 NADE National Training Conference.
I hope many of you will be able to attend. The chapter in Sioux Falls has
worked very hard and has put together a wonderful program. The Old Board
Meeting will begin at 4:00 P.M.. on Saturday, September 19. Remember, this
meeting is open to all NADE members and is a great opportunity to see how
your NADE Board works. Since my last message, all of the regions have held
their training conferences. I had the honor of attending must of the conferences
and I was truly impressed with the professionalism and dedication of NADE
members around the country. I feel privileged to be a part of this organization.
We have responded to the NPRM to delete the obesity listing. This response
was sent out to all NADE Board members. I would like to thank all of you
who sent in feedback and comments on this issue. NADE now has its final
discussion paper on redesign - and just in time. A special meeting has
been scheduled in Baltimore on July 16 and 17 for NADE to provide its views
and concerns on redesign to the Disability Process Redesign Team (DPRT)
and SSA components. Jeff Price, NADE President-Elect, Susan LaMorte, NADE
Past President and I will attend this meeting to discuss NADE’s position
on redesign. This meeting is the first of its kind and we are very excited
about it. Liz Washburn, Missouri DDS Administrator and Jim Ciseo, Administrator
in New York have retired. We wish them both well in their future endeavors.
Congratulations - membership is up. I hope NADE members have sent in their
renewals and for these new NADE members, Welcome. Remember, there is strength
in numbers. We can make a difference! -Debi
