The Honorable Stanford G. Ross,
Chairman Social Security Advisory Board
400 Virginia Avenue, S. W.
Suite 625
Washington, D. C. 20024
Dear Mr. Ross:
The National Association of Disability Examiners (NADE) recently addressed the issue of the five month waiting period for Title II disability claimants. We have prepared a position paper on this subject that we shared with the Social Security Administration. We would also like for you and the other members of the Social Security Advisory Board to have a copy of our position paper.
The members of NADE believe that the necessity of having to inform these claimants that they must serve a waiting period of five full calendar months, beginning with the onset of their disability, before they can begin to receive cash benefits does not serve the public interest. Nor do we believe that it serves the stated mission of the Social Security Administration.
NADE is very grateful for the Commissioner’s expressed interest in this matter and we look forward to the opportunity to work with the Social Security Administration and other interested parties to make this happen. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey H. Price NADE President
National Association of Disability Examiners
