The Honorable Senator Don Nickles,
Chairman
Social Security and Family Policy Subcommittee
Committee on Finance
SH-133 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, D. C. 20510-3602
Dear Senator Nickles:
The National Association of Disability Examiners (NADE) recently addressed the issue of the five month waiting period for Title II disability claimants. We have prepared a position paper on this subject that we shared with the Social Security Administration and other interested parties. We would also like for you, as Chairman of the Senate Social Security and Family Policy Subcommittee, to have a copy of our position paper. NADE would certainly welcome your support on this matter.
The members of NADE believe that the necessity of having to inform these claimants that they must serve a waiting period of five full calendar months, beginning with the onset of their disability, before they can begin to receive cash benefits does not serve the public interest. Nor do we believe that it serves the stated mission of the Social Security Administration.
NADE is very grateful for the interest that has been expressed by the Commissioner of Social Security and members of Congress in this matter and we look forward to the opportunity to work with the Social Security Administration, the Congress, and other interested parties to make this happen. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey H. Price NADE President
National Association of Disability Examiners
