The Honorable Kenneth S. Apfel
Commissioner
Social Security Administration
500 E Street, S.W.
Suite 850
Washington, D. C. 20254
Dear Commissioner Apfel:
The National Association of Disability Examiners (NADE) recently addressed the issue of the five month waiting period for Title II disability claimants. We have prepared a position paper on this subject that we would like to share with you.
The members of NADE believe that the necessity of having to inform these claimants that they must serve a waiting period of five full calendar months, beginning with the onset of their disability, before they can begin to receive cash benefits does not serve the public interest. Nor do we believe that it serves the stated mission of the Social Security Administration.
NADE is very grateful for your expressed interest in this matter and we look forward to the opportunity to work with you and your staff to make this happen. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey H. Price NADE President
National Association of Disability Examiners
