Chapter Newsletters Excel As Communication Tools
by Donna Hilton, Publications Director

THE ANNUAL NEWSLETTER CONTEST GIVES chapters a chance to showcase their publication talents. Each year it is a difficult job to weigh the merits of each entry and compare them one to another. This year the following states had entries in the contest: Illinois, Kentucky, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Carolina, Texas, and the Southwest region.

Winners were announced at the Awards Luncheon:

Small chapter, New Mexico Medium chapter, North Carolina Large chapter, Illinois Regional, Southwest Region

Winners received a certificate and fifty dollars. Entries are grouped according to chapter size: small chapters, membership from 1 to 25; medium chapters from 26 to 75; and large chapters, having over 76 members. The category is based on a chapter’s membership for November of each year. For example, North Carolina had 75 members last November and competed this year as a medium chapter. For the 1997-98 year North Carolina will be judged with large chapters because membership was 81 as of November, 1997. Plan now for next year’s contest. Entering is easy! Save eight (8) copies of each issue your chapter publishes and send these to the publications director (me!) next August. There will be a reminder in the May and July issues of the Advocate. Please send me a copy of your chapter newsletter throughout the year.
