Award Winners Announced At Annual Luncheon

MANY NOMINATIONS WERE RECEIVED FOR the awards
presented by NADE this year and the nominations committee had their work
cut out for them. However, they did their job and they did it well. The
1997 recipients of Awards at the NADE National Training Conference held
in Louisville, Kentucky, were: Carroll D. Moore, Tennessee, was honored
with the Charles O. Blalock Award in recognition of his extended efforts
and major contributions toward the organizational advancement of NADE.
In his new position as Director of the Tennessee agency, he has shown consistent
efforts over a period of at least three years toward the advancement of
NADE. Mr. Moore has provided outstanding leadership in the development
and substantial expansion of his state chapter, regional and national organization.
Jacque Rank, Nebraska, received the NADE Award and was recognized as the
disability professional who has made outstanding contributions to the service
of the claimant in accordance with her expertise. She has contributed substantially
of her time and talent to promote harmonious and effective working relationships
among her immediate professional community. Sue Heflin, Mississippi, was
presented the John Gordon Award in honor and recognition of her superior
performance as a supervisor. She has been a NADE member for 16 years. By
her initiative and resourcefulness, she promotes cohesiveness in her work
group. As a supervisor, she provides further incentive for personal growth
and professionalism among the individuals she supervises. Mary Lou Coffin,
Texas, was awarded the Lewis Buckingham Award as a leader at both the regional
and national level. She has consistently shown outstanding achievement
by the use of initiative and humanitarian efforts to further advance the
professionalism and goals of NADE. She has held national office and has
contributed at least 10 years of continuous service to the organization.
Kenny Bowen, North Carolina, was honored with the Director’s Award. He
is recognized as an outstanding member of the support staff who demonstrates
work performance efficiency and characteristics which contribute to the
efficient operation of his unit and the morale of his coworkers. He shows
outstanding leadership and work performance among his peers. James Coseo,
New York, was presented the Earl B. Thomas Award in recognition of an administrator
of a disability agency for constant contributions to the Social Security
disability program that far exceed the responsibility of the position.
He has contributed significantly to the program in ways consistent with
the policies of NADE. He actively supports the advancement of NADE in his
agency. Veronica Monsivais, Texas, received the Frank Barclay Award in
recognition of her exceptional ability to motivate and challenge, develop
or promote programs which motivate or challenge others, striving for personal
and professional growth/human resource development. She has notable accomplishments
in these areas consistent with the policies and objectives of our professional
organization. Tar Heel Association of Disability Examiners, North Carolina,
received the President’s award in recognition of an outstanding chapter.
This chapter has demonstrated outstanding achievement by innovative programs,
for improving medical and other professional community relationships. Their
many activities such as presentations, publication of bulletins and newsletters,
and other efforts assist in improving the quality of medical and vocational
reporting. The professional information presented by this chapter can be
utilized for effective documentation of disability determinations. Their
other activities enhance working relationships among its professional communities.
