Highlights of the NADE Delegate Assembly

NADE President-Elect Larry DeVantier presided over the meeting of the NADE Delegate Assembly, representing NADE President Linda Langele who could not attend for personal reasons. Reports were presented by the National Officers, Regional Directors, and Committee Chairs. The Delegate Assembly elected the following officers for 1995-96:

President-Elect Susan LaMorte (New Jersey)

Secretary Anne Graham (Maryland)

Treasurer Lyle Larson (South Dakota)

In addition, the Delegate Assembly recognized the earlier re-election by the Council of Chapter Presidents of Leslie Hendren (Texas) as its President and representative on the NADE Board. In other business, the Delegate Assembly took the following actions:

- fixed the dates of the 1996 National Conference as 10/20-10/25/96 in Chicago, IL; the National Conference will be held from 11/2-11/8/97 in Louisville, KY; the 1998 Conference is scheduled for 10/20-10/25/98 in Rapid City, SD. In addition, bids are expected for the 1999 Conference from Denver, CO and for 2000 Conference from Texas. - discussed the Childhood Disability Report issued by the National Commission, expected to be released on 11/17/95. - discussed bids for the new membership processing contract, which was to be voted on by the 1995-96 NADE Board. - approved a resolution submitted by the Great Lakes Region for NADE to establish a workgroup to restructure the NADE certification process in light of recommendations in SSA Redesign proposal. - approved a resolution submitted by the Southeast Region indicating NADE support for victims of the bombing in Oklahoma City. - in a near-unanimous “straw vote” recommended to the ND Board that it take a position opposed to federalization of the program and endorsing the current federal-state relationship. - extended its appreciation to the Maine Chapter for hosting the 1995 Annual Conference. - extended its appreciation to NADE president Linda Lingulae for her leadership of NADE during the previous year. - extended its appreciation to NADE President-elect Larry DeVantier for special assistance rendered to the President during the previous year. - extended its appreciation to outgoing NADE legislative Chairman Carroll Moore for his outstanding service as head of this important Committee. At the conclusion of business, Larry DeVantier formally assumed the duties of NADE President for the 1995-96 year.
