Highlights Of Nade Delegate Assembly
October 13 – 14, 1999 Denver, Colorado

NADE President Jeff Price presided over the
36th meeting of the NADE Delegate Assembly
in Denver, Colorado. Reports were presented
by the National Officers, Regional Directors and
Committee Chairs.

The Delegate Assembly elected the following Officers for 1999 – 2000:

President-Elect Sue Heflin (Mississippi)

Secretary Shari Bratt (Nebraska)

Treasurer Lyle Larson (South Dakota)

The Delegate Assembly recognized the re-election of Dean Crawford (Texas) as President of the Council of Chapter Presidents and representative on the NADE Board.

In addition, the Delegate Assembly took the following actions:

l observed a moment of silence for longtime charter member from New York, Sidney Huben and his wife, Sylvia who died in September, 1999.

l discussed and approved a resolution from Great Plains Region calling for SSA to provide training to disability and rehabilitation professionals concerning current 301 provisions and NADE provide SSA with a position paper recommending changes in the 301 Provisions that would allow more disability recipients to be included under approved 301 training plans, provided with vocational training and returned to the work force.

l discussed and approved a resolution from Northeast Region that NADE go on record as favoring a change in the CFR and POMS instructions regarding 301 benefits. NADE supports changing the CFR and POMS instructions to enable disability recipients whose benefits have been ceased and who are engaged in vocational rehabilitation to access 301 benefits at any point during the process regardless as to the disability cessation date.

l approved the Constitution and bylaws for the new NADE Chapter in New Hampshire and recognized them and presented them with the new chapter plaque.

l discussed and approved the constitution and bylaws change establishing the Hearing Officers Committee as a standing committee.

l discussed and approved the constitution and bylaws change deleting the Program Committee, as the chapter hosting the conference and the president-elect now absorbs this function.

l discussed and approved the constitution and bylaws change deleting from the duties of the president-elect any reference to the Program Committee.

l discussed legislative and program issues anticipated for 1999 – 2000.

l President Price gave an update on our new web page www.NADE.org and encouraged all members to visit it.

l discussed plans for the 2000 National Training Conference scheduled for September 16-24, 2000 at the El San Juan Hotel and Resort, San Juan, PR. The room rates are $110 per night single/double.

l discussed plans for the 2001 National Training Conference scheduled for October 29 –November 1, 2001 at Hyatt Regency, Austin, TX. Room rates are $132 per night single/double.

l discussed plans for the 2002 National Training Conference scheduled for September 21 – 28, 2002 at Doubletree Hotel, Portland, OR. Room rates are tentatively set for $107/single and $126/double.

l extended its appreciation to the Colorado Chapter for hosting an outstanding 1999 Training Conference in Denver.

l extended its appreciation to Jeff Price for his outstanding leadership during this past year. He has been referred to as “the people’s president” for reaching out not only to all the leaders, but also to all our members.

l welcomed Terri Spurgeon as the 37th President of NADE.
