NADE Wants To Know...
NADE is considering a requirement that individuals obtain 25 continuing education credits over a 3-year period to maintain accreditation as a disability professional. The current certification requirements would be in place and would be a prerequisite to accreditation. Membership in NADE would also be a requirement for accreditation. Since this is a big change, the Continuing Education Committee would like input from your chapter on the following issues.
1. How would individuals get credit?
2. How much credit should be given for different types of training?
3. Should subjects be in any area at all or should we recommend how they
should be broken out, e.g., a certain number for medical instruction, a
certain number for program, and another number for related subjects?
4. Should we have special standards for separate jobs, e.g., PRO, medical
consultants, hearings officers, disability examiners, systems?
5. What are the potential sources of CE credits? l Disability Training
via IVT l State DDS sponsored training l Specific sessions at the NADE
National Training Conference l Specific sessions at regional NADE training
conferences l Specific sessions at local NADE training conferences l Certain
courses at colleges and universities
6. Should NADE require written verification of attendance?
7. For academic courses, should the individual have to provide: l A summary of the course? l An explanation of how it relates to being a disability professional? l Proof of attendance? l An evaluation of the course?
8. Should a panel of NADE members prepare clear written guidelines on how much credit should be provided for each course/training?
9. How will the recording of credits be maintained?
10. Should NADE try to obtain a grant to implement this process?
