Windy City to Host 1996 National Training Conference
by Ann Davenport, Michigan DDS
THEY SAY THERE ARE NO more gangsters in Chicago.
We in the Great Lakes Region are hoping that you will take your chances
on that and come to the wonderful city of Chicago during the week of October
20 for the 1996 NADE National Training Conference. Big Al, and the rest
of his family in the Great Lakes, will be on hand to watch over you.
After much research and visiting many hotels, Al and I chose the Holiday Inn City Centra as the site of the conference. This hotel was chosen for a number of reasons such as: the beauty of the hotel, the seemingly excellent service, location, and reasonable price. It is called a City Centra because it is a self-contained city block with facilities such as restaurants and movies that can be reached without going outside. Attached to the hotel is a complete Health Center which can be used by hotel guests at no cost.
The hotel has a formal dining room, a deli, and a sports bar; there is an Italian restaurant next to the Health Club; and there are many, many restaurants and deli’s in every direction within a block of the hotel.
From our hospitality suite, we should be able to see some of the tallest skyscrapers in the world in one direction and the beautiful Lake Michigan in another direction. Unfortunately, it probably won’t be beach weather, because we will also be about one city block from the beach. But, you will probably want to visit the Navy Pier, which extends out into Lake Michigan, with its many shops and activities.
Members of the entertainment committee have made several visits to Chicago on what we call “fact-finding missions”. We have found that there are so many things to do in Chicago, depending upon your interests, that we want to inform you as well as we can, and then leave you with as much free time as possible so you can explore the city as you like. We hope that you will come to Chicago at least the week-end before the conference so you will have time to experience it. We plan to have one city tour on Sunday, but we will leave you with Saturday and Monday on your own. We plan to have several articles in the ADVOCATE over the next year to let you know what there is to do in the city, and what plays and events will be going on at the time.
