This month they are celebrating their 15th year anniversary in Disability Representation, their ONLY business, and moved into new headquarters. Their local territory from their offices includes eastern Missouri, southern Illinois, northeastern Arkansas, western Kentucky and western Tennessee. The company also works with many Long-Term Disability Insurance recipients through various insurance companies throughout the United States. In addition to their public website, the company has also developed a second website that is updated each day and allows the Long-Term Disability Insurance companies to check the status of claims being handled by Shaw Management Corporation. Plans are to develop a semi-paperless system in the near future to keep up with 21st century technology. The president of the Shaw Management Corporation, James Shaw, took a few minutes out of his busy schedule to discuss his company and his experience with the disability program. Mr. Shaw's background in the disability process began in November of 1973 with the Missouri DDS in Cape Girardeau. He came on board just as the state agencies began processing SSI cases. Upon arrival, he was handed a training book titled "Instrux" and had 350 cases stacked in his new office. As he worked in the DDS over the next 12 years, he became interested in working as a representative. He joined the representative group of Allsup Inc. in November 1985 and went out on his own in June of 1988. He now has 29 on staff! Shaw Management Corporation has both Attorney and Non-Attorney Representatives who represent individuals applying for Social Security Disability Benefits, as well as Railroad Retirement Disability Benefits. Shaw Management Corporation believes in a well-trained staff to handle disability claims and is in the process of certifying all Team members and Representatives who work directly with their clients. The employees at Shaw Management Corporation believe in the service they provide for clients and work diligently to help them get the benefits for which they qualify at the earliest possible time. They refer claimants to Vocational Rehabilitation and other agencies for assistance when SSDI or SSI is not a viable path for the claimant. Mr. Shaw expressed his appreciation for the job that the DDS does and the heavy workloads that they often carry. He stated that his staff gets involved early in their claimants' cases to aggressively help the DDS obtain medical records and explain the process to the claimants. They even prepare a synopsis sheet for the DDS to provide an overview of the issues, the medical records, and the contents of any records they have obtained thus far. This company policy continues through the hearing process, which has resulted in one of the highest approval records for claims being approved "on the record" - 46%!
