Dear President Bush:
On behalf of the National Association of Disability Examiners (NADE), I would like to extend an invitation to you to speak at our annual national training conference. This year’s conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Austin, Texas October 29-November 1. We have reserved the morning slot on Wednesday, October 31st from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. However, we will certainly be flexible if this time is not convenient.
NADE is a professional association whose membership includes physicians, psychologists, advocates, attorneys, and administrative law judges. However, the majority of our members work in the state Disability Determination Service (DDS) agencies and are directly involved in processing claims for Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) disability benefits.
Reshaping the Social Security program was a major focus of your campaign for the Presidency in 2000 and is a critical part of your national policy. We believe that the timing of our conference will provide you with a friendly forum to address the issues and findings that may be available from the recently appointed bipartisan commission to study the future shape of Social Security.
I am enclosing a copy of the tentative agenda for our conference. We would appreciate a reply as soon as possible but certainly no later than August 1, 2001.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey H. Price, President-elect
National Association of Disability Examiners
Editor’s Note: President’s Bush’s office has declined the invitation. NADE did receive a favorable reply and acceptance to speak from Stanford Ross, Chairman of the Social Security Advisory Board.
