President's Message

SINCE MY LAST MESSAGE THINGS have been pretty busy. On March 17, Jeff and I attended the Disability Process Redesign Team (DPRT) Advisory Committee meeting in Baltimore. Sue Roecker gave an overview and discussed the various pilots - Single Decision Maker (SDM) I and II, Full Process Model (FPM), Adjudicative Officer (AO), Disability Claims Manager (DCM), Process Unification (PU), and Quality Assurance (OA). Joe Gribbin discussed the evaluation data on the AO and FPM. Sue Davis talked about the next steps and the plan for implementation. The next DPRT Advisory Committee meeting is expected to take place in July or August and will explore the “human’ side of redesign. On Sunday, March 22, we left for Denver, Colorado and the SSA/DDS Management Forum. NADE got a welcome reception and I was delighted with the administrative support for NADE. The meeting covered many subjects and was very informative. (A summary of the Forum is included in this issue of the ADVOCATE.) NADE was scheduled to testify before the Senate on Tuesday, March 24. This hearing was on the childhood cases. We prepared testimony for the hearing and it was cancelled on Friday, the 20th. It has not been rescheduled at this writing; however, we will keep an eye on it. The next few months will see all of the regions hold their annual training conferences. This is a great time to network, share ideas and concerns as well as an ideal time to recruit new members. Many people have been introduced to NADE and the activities of the organization at regional training conferences. National Disability Professionals Week (NDPW) will be recognized the week of June 15. NADE continues to be the only national voice for Examiners. NDPW is a great time to let DDS Employees know what NADE is doing and our involvement in the disability program. If you are using NDPW to recruit members and need some financial assistance, remember that there are a certain number of membership grants available. You can contact Terri Spurgeon if you are interested. Also, don’t forget to let Debi Chowdhury, NDPW Chair, know how your chapter celebrated this special week in June. You may just win a prize! When your renewal comes in the mail, I urge you to renew your membership and your commitment to NADE!

- Debi
