2000 Southeast Regional Conference
by Jennifer Koleff, Georgia DDS
IN CASE YOU HAVEN’T HEARD, GADE is hosting
the Southeast Regional Training Conference to be held at the Atlanta Marriott
North Central from May 9-12, 2000. Our conference coordinators and committee
members have been working hard to prepare an interesting and informative
program as well as enjoyable social activities. The conference opens with
the Southeast Regional Board meeting on Tuesday afternoon and brings everyone
together Tuesday evening for the President’s Reception with food and entertainment
to start the week off right. There will be a variety of topics that will
be covered by the excellent panel of speakers we have lined up. Our keynote
speaker will be Brooks Coleman who will blast us off into a new horizon
when he talks about the “Heros and Sheros of our Wonderful Changing World”.
There will also be a lively motivational session by Atlanta’s own “Doc
Hollywood” Dr. Neil Shulman. Dr. Shulman uses humor to diffuse stress and
uses comedy to de-mystify doctors and medical procedures. In real life,
Dr. Shulman’s attitude and behaviors are much like those of Patch Adams
whom he recently did a benefit with in Atlanta. In his spare time (!) Dr.
Shulman is also an associate professor at Emory University’s School of
Medicine. Breakout sessions will include lessons in financial planning
for both the beginner and intermediate learner, malingering, PC enhancements,
nutrition, and elder care solutions. There are also sessions to provide
information about living with a brain injury, spinal cord injury, and the
AIDS Survival Project. And be sure not to miss Friday’s sessions, which
will include a presentation on training canine companions for disabled
people and a conference wrap-up from motivational speaker Jean Houston
Shore. Ms. Houston Shore is a dynamic keynote speaker and a seasoned Business
Improvement Professional known for content-rich presentations. Her combination
of humor, sensitivity, and practical knowledge makes her approach refreshing!
The Awards Breakfast will be on Thursday morning and will include greetings
from Georgia’s Lieutenant Governor Mark Taylor. As you can see, we will
be offering a full schedule that will be not only educational but also
relaxing and enjoyable. We are very proud to be hosting the first Southeast
Regional Training Conference of the new century and hope everyone will
join us.
